The subunit for radio-pharmaceutical sciences at the Division of Nuclear Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna was established for the development and preclinical evaluation of novel PET tracers, specifically targeting receptors, transporters and enzymes.
Our research-group comprises young scientists originating from different scientific background, all devoted to our final goal: combining scientific curiosity and excellence! Our understanding of this group’s principles is BASIC SCIENCE free of commercial orientation. Hence, we finance our members primarily through scientific grants; although very much welcome, commercial sponsors play a subordinate role in the nucleus of our unit but contribute significantly at our partners. This support is mainly used for investments in infrastructural improvements such as lab equipment or chemicals.
Our scientific aim is PET tracer development – from bench to bedside. Therefore, medicinal radiochemistry and preclinical sciences are the main tools to bring our ideas to clinical routine. To transport our visions to a wider public, all members are motivated to participate in national and international congress meetings and symposia. Of course, we are glad to be seriously involved in academic teaching at the Medical University of Vienna, the University of Vienna (Departments of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Nutritional Sciences, …), the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt and the Academy for Radiotechnologists Vienna. Thus, our unit is a hatchery for bachelor, diploma and PhD students as well as post-doctoral fellows in the field of radiopharmaceutical sciences.
Furthermore, we are proud to guarantee the reliable preparation and support of all routinely used PET tracers, such as [18F]FDG, [11C]methionine, 68Ga-DOTATOC or 177Lu-DOTA-PSMA. Our quest can only be achieved through the close collaboration of the Division of Nuclear Medicine of the Medical University of Vienna (MUW) and the Hospital Pharmacy of the General Hospital of Vienna (AKH) based on the exceptional personal support of Mag.a Martina Anditsch and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Marcus Hacker.
